A Practical Guide for NAS Reporting: Developing EPAs, Evidence-Based Curriculum and Examinations to reach Your Program's Full Potential.

Learn how to effectively utilize rotation-specific EPAs to meet the reporting requirements for the ACGME Next Accreditation System (NAS).  Over the past year internal medicine residency programs have had an opportunity to learn more about the NAS, Milestone Reporting, and the 16 End of Training EPAs.  In response program directors have developed complex tools to measure performance.  A practical solution is to tie assessments to the rotation objectives with rotation-specific EPAs and examinations. Thereby generating formative review based on what is learned, and tracking summative performance longitudinally.  This will provide for a better health education outcome, while keeping costs low.

The session will begin with a brief overview of NAS and EPAs.  Then presenters will review:
  • Curricular innovations, the underlying learning theory, and specific roles in program improvement from Challenger
  • EPA-based evaluation modalities from MyEvaluations.com.
Presenters will demonstrate how to use customizable and ready-to-use tools for managing your program; including monitoring educational outcomes for each rotation. The session will end by reviewing the Clinical Competencies Committee’s (CCC) tools for summative assessment and NAS reporting.

Educational Objectives:
  • Learn how to develop rotation-specific EPAs and EPA-based evaluations
  • Learn how to use learning objectives and examination to gauge your program
  • Develop method to manage CCC expectations
  • Visualize NAS reporting in a streamlined manner
